It was on 1st January, 1988 that I joined Aarti industry as an Office Assistant. I was ready to fulfil each and every responsibility that was allotted to me and this open frame of mind helped me learn new things.
The guidance and support that I received from my seniors and mentors was extraordinary. They are my gurus who taught me to work with different sectors like banking, collection, documentation of all departments, nationwide travel and government work. This was followed by typing of different legal documents which further exposed me to computers and made me the man I am today.
The first and the most valuable milestone that I achieved was in 1996, when I successfully set up the IT department/IT infrastructure development at a factory site in Gujarat. This was followed by digitalization of purchase and sales system, inventory management system in SQL, Tally ERP and PARTA, successful implementation of SAP-ERP across all manufacturing sites. It was the IT infrastructure development at Jhagadia and Dahej which was a complete Greenfield project.
The best memories that I have are of interacting with the new team at project sites for implementation of SAP and systems. It was indeed a proud moment when I received an Award of Appreciation for completion of 25 years of my service to this organization, in presence of all directors and our chairman Shri CVG sir. During this tenure, I’ve learnt a lot in terms of personal relations with others, including greater task activities, work persistence and enhancement of knowledge. But most importantly, I’ve learnt that failure is not inherent in the individual.
I’m deeply attached with the organization because I feel without emotional connect, no ownership can come. I feel proud to be a member of Aarti family as it has made my life more joyful and delighted. I feel a change in my thoughts as now I’m not only able to evaluate everything more clearly but I have also learnt to refocus the efforts in case of failures. I have grown with the company and I feel that my company should be one of the Top 5 companies of our nation. So, if you wish to increase your inner potential and wisdom, I’ll say…”Welcome to the University of Practical Knowledge…welcome to Aarti!”
In the 1990’s, I used to pass by daily from the front side road of AIL to work in a small unit in 4th phase of GIDC. As I saw the AIL complex being built day-by-day, I shared my dream with my friends and classmates that we all can get employed in that same unit. And then the day came when I was called upon for personal interview and I got the job which I had been dreaming for.
21st January, 1991 was the day I joined Aarti Organic Ltd. (later Aarti Industries Ltd.) as a Chemist and was assigned job in Chlorination plant with my mentor, Mr. Padmesh Vaidya. Initially it was tough for me to understand. However within 10-11 months, I got used to the system and plant.
Till 1994 chlorination plant was not giving desired output for which it was installed. Then some basic design changes were done in the plant, which gave a breakthrough and production of chlorobenzenes increased day by day and finally, reached 60-70% of the capacity. It was a big accomplishment for all of us in the team. In 1995 I got promoted as the plant-in-charge and started learning a lot about the better operations of the plant, under the guidance of Shree Parimalbhai, Dr. Sawant and Mr. D S Galpalli. And within just two years, the plant’s productivity reached to 95% of installed capacity. Then there was a need for expansion with downstream products which is key to the further growth of the organisation.
That’s when my interaction with Mr. KKS Babu and Shree CVG started for planning and execution of capacity expansion. This resulted in the expansion of the chlorobenzene plant with debottlenecking in 1998, where I played lead role in the expansion activity. During all these activities I learnt a lot from my seniors about leadership principles.
In 2002, the installation of DCB column section and separation of DCB isomers was set-up. Then Nascent plant was acquired for DCB products, PDCB business and quality set-up for Japanese customers, which became key to growth of the organisation.
In 2005, I got the chance to lead Anushakti Kutch plant right from the commissioning stage and it boosted the PDCB business for us. Meanwhile, I was promoted to a managerial position and later on, Sr. Manager.
In 2007, I got opportunity to lead Nitration plant (NCB). So I was proud to lead both chlorobenzene plant as well Nitrochloro plant. Basic issues of crystallizer leakages were settled with the help of seniors to improve throughput of plant.
Sometimes good fortune showers upon a person and in 2012, it happened to me when my dream to lead a whole division (Base) of the organisation came true. I was designated as Dy. G.M. I wanted to set a benchmark that in the most critical unit of organisation, we can achieve best yield, quality and productivity to demonstrate. As a reward of my achievements, I was promoted to the post of G.M.
My professional journey in this organisation seems to have played a vital role in the development of my life skills such as leadership, intelligence, and making me insightful and hardworking. I truly believe that, working with technocrat promoters and directors make a huge difference in evolving preferred future.
